Education

The Education Department of the Dakota Women’s Correctional & Rehabilitation Center commits to provide the qualified inmates incarcerated at the facility an opportunity to develop personal knowledge and positive attitudes necessary for a successful transition into society’s educational and/or employment communities. Providing a positive atmosphere conductive to learning and self-empowerment with an opportunity to obtain educational and vocational skills allows for this successful transition.

Dakota Women’s Correctional & Rehabilitation Center strives to provide educational and vocational programs that are consistent with the needs of the female inmate population. Dakota Women’s Correctional & Rehabilitation Center offers programs that provide every inmate the privilege and opportunity to become self-sufficient. The facility believes that education is a lifelong process and is recognized as an important factor in the rehabilitation process. The facility offers a number of different educational programs that are available to assist the inmate with personal and career development. The education department currently offers these classes to all inmates incarcerated at DWCRC.

GEDThe program’s basic purpose is to assist inmates in preparing for the General Equivalency Diploma test.
ABEThe program is designed to help develop educational skills needed to succeed in society.
Computers This vocational class provides instruction on computer skills and computer programs.
KeyboardingThis class provides inmates the opportunity to work on basic keyboarding skills.
ParentingThe class provides inmates with information on raising children and healthy parenting styles.
Pre-ReleaseThis class will help prepare inmates for the transition back into their communities.
Social SkillsThis class focuses on acceptable and appropriate behaviors in society.
WeldingProvides vocational training in the field of welding.
Independent Study ProgramsAllows for college correspondence or independent study programs, at the inmates cost.
College ClassesThe facility offers college credit courses throughout the year, at a very minimal cost to the inmates.
Work/Education ReleaseThis program allows qualified inmates to attain jobs in the community.
