Treatment

Dakota Women’s Correctional and Rehab Center (DWCRC) offers a variety of programming, including education and therapeutic groups and strives to implement programs that are specific to female needs.

Houses of Healing:

This therapeutic group covers a variety of subjects, including trauma and loss, forgiveness, remorse, resentment, relaxation and self-esteem. By permitting them to process situations that have been traumatic in their life, these components are designed to increase ones self-awareness, promoting greater inner peace, power and freedom.

Cognitive Restructuring:

This educational group assists the individual in perceiving situations in a realistic and noncriminal manner, while identifying how thoughts and feelings can prohibit this from occurring. Interventions are also identified to deal with situations in which feelings or thoughts may provoke an unhealthy response.

Anger Management:

This educational group provides an individual with the knowledge of cause and effect of anger, aggression, violence, criminal thinking and abuse. Individuals will learn tools to appropriately express anger, problem solve and communicate assertively with others.

Healthy Relationships:

This course will enable the individual to look at the relationship they have with themselves as well as others, focusing on issues such as: self-respect, boundaries, conflict resolution, co-dependency, abusive relationships and communication skills. Learning will take place through a variety of techniques, including music, art, conversation, journaling, written exercises and activities. The goal of this group is to come away with a better understanding of yourself and the relationships that you have with others.

Women’s Mental Health:

This group addresses a variety of topics, including self-esteem, depression, anxiety, stressors, coping skills, choices, changes, forgiveness and empowerment. The goal of this group is to increase self-awareness and develop positive skills to help you in your daily life. Learning will take place through a variety of techniques, including music, art, conversation, journaling, written exercises and activities.

Survivors of Violence:

This group is facilitated by volunteers from the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center. It serves an educational purpose to increase one’s awareness of violence within relationships while providing a healing environment to deal with the trauma associated with these situations.

Daily Reflections:

This group provides a daily meditation, followed by 50 minutes to journal, draw or meditate. It will be provided within a setting in which one can enjoy a quiet and uninterrupted period to gather their thoughts and work through frustration.

Beyond Trauma:

This group is a manualized program that runs for approximately 12 weeks. Group sessions include defining trauma, the cause and effects of trauma and ways to promote both physical and emotional well being.

Level II.1 Chemical Dependency Treatment:

This program is licensed by North Dakota Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Entry into this program requires a referral from a licensed addiction counselor. This group meets for a minimum of 9 hours per week and includes sessions on addiction, cognitive restructuring, mental health, lecture and requires weekly AA/NA attendance.
